YEAR-LONG FUNDRAISING
EFFORTS MAKE THE
WINTERIM TRIP AN EVEN
MORE ENRICHING EXPERIENCE.
This year our grade 11 students dove into the Authentic World of Learning by planning an international community service trip to Costa Rica. Learning inside and outside the classroom, exploring the world, and creating memories that will last a lifetime is what makes the Winterim trip so memorable.
Students’ fundraising events included Sens ticket raffles, bake sales, cake auctions, and a Vintage Flea Market with donations from the Element community that our students re-sold to raise funds. Our students also organized our annual Spring Fling Dance and treated the rest of the school to a night of snacks, drinks, and music. Thanks to their hard work, students raised nearly $7,000 to help fund their trip to Costa Rica!
By engaging in fundraising activities, students not only give back to their community but also develop essential life skills.
Life skills learned from fundraising:
- creativity
- responsibility
- accounting skills
- self discipline
- public speaking
- accountability
“When working in a large group of people, it is easy to get frustrated that the process is too slow. We found that having different people doing different tasks, as well as having frequent check-ins with teammates and teachers, helped to alleviate this frustration.”
-Student
Students learned to take charge, delegate tasks and make crucial decisions, all while cultivating a sense of teamwork that fosters effective communication and collaboration.
Engaging in fundraising events promotes a sense of social responsibility that can’t be learned at a desk. Ultimately, these experiences boost students’ confidence and self-esteem, equipping them with transferable skills for lifelong success.
