Montessori emphasized the importance of adolescents developing a strong social identity and sense of responsibility through purposeful work. This work often takes place in the context of land stewardship. Each Spring and Fall, our e1 students spend some time at a local organic farm, engaging with the Science and Humanities curriculum through direct, hands-on experiences with the land. Additionally, their work includes seeding, transplanting, weeding, and harvesting—activities that serve both as community service and as a practical introduction to the food production cycle.
