About Me

Sophie Bertrand has earned a Masters in Vocal Performance from the University of Ottawa and has been teaching music for over ten years. During her graduate studies, Sophie was a teaching assistant for opera workshop and played the role of Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen and Monica in Menotti’s The Medium. She studied with vocal coach Donald Sulzen in Munich, Germany and sang in masterclasses with Edith Wiens, Deen Larsen, Daniel Lichti and Daryl Edwards. She has performed in numerous opera productions at the National Arts Centre, including Louis Riel, Le Nozze di Figaro, Madama Butterfly, Carmen, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Lucia di Lammermoor, Turandot, and Manon. At The Element, Sophie teaches Integrated Arts – a course that encourages students to be creative while exploring various art disciplines. A portion of this course requires students to sing in an ensemble. Sophie hopes to inspire students to always keep a place for music and the arts regardless of the vocation they choose to pursue.
