The Element Cooks: Traditional Italian Pizza

Our e1 students have had the opportunity of cooking with and learning from Chef Chris (a student’s grandparent) as part of their cooking program! Last week, they learned safe knife skills, how to chop and clean up after themselves in the kitchen while making a delicious Italian salad.

However, the showstopper of our Italian-themed week was the PIZZA!  It was so good, we could not keep it to ourselves! In fact, we will make it a habit to share our favourite recipes with you as much as possible. But for now… 

... here are the ingredients and instructions to chef Chris’  Traditional Italia Pizza:

Preheat oven to 425F.

PIZZA DOUGH

Ingredients: 

3 1/2 cups warm water, 105-110F

7 cups (1 kg) fine white flour

6 tsp dried yeast

6 tbsp Olive Oil

1 1/2 tsp salt

2 tsp sugar

Instructions:

Add warm water to a warm bowl, 105-110F.  Add the yeast, salt and sugar. Stir to dissolve.

Warm the flour, add the liquid and knead well to mix about 15 minutes.

Place the dough into an oiled bowl and place above the warm oven to proof.

Knock the dough down and turn out onto a floured surface. Knead and then cut into 4.

Roll out to desired thickness. Place onto oiled pizza pans. Brush, lightly, with Olive oil.

Place into the oven for 8-10 mins to set.

TOPPINGS

Ingredients & instructions:

4 cups grated Mozzarella Cheese

4 cups diced Roma Tomatoes.

Take the pizza from the oven. Sprinkle with tomatoes and cheese and then back into the oven until the cheese is melted and the bottom is brown.

4 cups chopped fresh Basil

Take the cooked pizza from the oven and sprinkle with Basil.

 

 

Cut, serve and ENJOY!
