What about the ice cream?
The first student run spaghetti dinner of the year was a huge success– even though there was no ice cream to accompany the delicious pies being served. The students had planned to have ice cream as an option, but no one picked it up. The result? There was no ice cream, and students had to deal with this reality. This was a very tangible “mistake” for the students to process, and it is mistakes like these that make the micro-economy businesses an authentic experience for our students. The students are responsible for all aspects of the business, from marketing to the final product. Students debrief after each event and make notes about what can be done better next time… No doubt, for this business, someone will buy ice cream next time!
