The Element High School Sleeps Out for Homeless Youth!

The Youth Services Bureau’s SleepOUT for Youth is a unique fundraising event in support of programs to reduce youth homelessness in Ottawa. Since 2012, youth and their families and friends, along with community and business leaders, have spent one night outside – without many of the comforts of home. The experience calls attention to the realities faced by well over 1,000 young people who find themselves homeless in Ottawa each year.

The Element High School SleepOUT team has done an incredible job at fundraising for this event. Students led various initiatives including a cake auction, a bake sale at our Halloween Party, a Jack-o’-Lantern sale, a Photography Exhibit at Mantovani 1946, as well as door-to-door fundraising. We raised over $5,000 to meet our ambitious fundraising goal!

During the night of the SleepOut, students stayed positive and kept us smiling through a cold and rainy night. The students were treated to pizza, pumpkin soup, hot chocolate, and Kettleman’s bagels, all donated by generous sponsors. We had a campfire near our site that helped keep us warm, and a DJ giving us some beats to dance to. Here are a few pictures of the evening.
